Documentary and Photojournalism

David Guttenfelder

Boots On The Ground

I choose this image by David Guttenfelder because I feel as though it is a good example of photojournalism. This is a picture of U.S. soldiers who are taking cover after coming under attack at a location in Afghanistan. By looking at this picture it gives you an insight to the conditions that soldiers are living in on top of everything else that they have to deal with while deployed.

  1. It is hard to tell what this image is abut. But if it is as you say, it does indeed convey the difficult conditions under which our troops are operating. It is a powerful image.

  2. First i couldn't even understand what was in the frame. The photo makes you pay more attention to the image than we usually does. And I guess it's a good illustration of any war as such. When there are even no personalities, just soldiers, just like in Kipling's poem "Boots". Incredible ;idea of showing the essence of WAR

  3. Can't help repeating after Kippling "there is no discharge in the war"
